Frequently Asked Questions
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a system of healthcare that releases a serious stress from your body: the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. A subluxation is a tiny (and often painless) spinal distortion that can affect your nerves, muscles, internal organs, discs, bones, brain function, posture and overall health.
What is Health?
Throughout the years, the interpretations and definitions of health have changed or been distorted and confused. Chiropractic looks at health in a much different light. Chiropractic realizes that a symptom, ache or pain is the body's way of telling us that something is happening. Much like a car, with its indicator lights that tell the driver if the oil is low or the temperature is too high, your body reacts in the same manner through symptoms. Chiropractic listens to these signals and works with the body, not to turn them off, but rather to find their cause and to correct any interference to the body's own healing process. Chiropractic also recognizes that the body's different signs and symptoms do not mean the body is in ill health. For example, when the body is fighting a virus, the innate response of the body is to create a fever to "burn out" the virus. Though the person with the fever does not feel good because of the aches, pains, chills and headaches, the fever is a sign of health within the body and shows that the body is trying to normalize itself.
Chiropractic looks at health not from a symptomatic viewpoint, but from a position that the body will express itself in many different ways to create a healthy posture. Chiropractic knows that the intelligence within your body understands how to heal you. Thus, when given the proper internal environment, your body will do the best job it can to create a healthy state of being.
What is the popping noise?
When a joint is adjusted, the two surfaces of the joint separate. The popping sound is not made from the bones, but the collapse of a gas bubble formed in the joint fluid as the joint is separated.
Can subluxations clear up on their own?
Sometimes. Today's hectic lives can be constant sources of subluxations. Fortunately, our bodies have the ability to self-correct many of these minor problems as we bend and stretch, or when we sleep at night.
Can you adjust extremities?
Yes, jaw, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles all respond very well to chiropractic care.
Is it safe for pregnant patients to have chiropractic care?
Yes! Pregnancy may be one of the BEST times to benefit from chiropractic care. While it's always best to have a properly working nervous system, it's especially helpful when a woman's body is growing and supporting a developing life. Adjusting methods are modified to a mother's size, weight, and condition. During this time of weight gain and hormonal changes, many mothers seek chiropractic care because it is drug free. Many also report shorter and easier births.

Is chiropractic safe for kids?
Chiropractic is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle. It is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints, according to the American Chiropractic Academy. In fact, after an extensive study of care for lower back problems, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, a federal government organization, recommended spinal adjustments as the only safe and effective form of initial professional treatment.

Do I need to have X-rays -OR- Can you use X-rays I already have?
X-rays are an important tool for Dr. Ranae-- along with other scans and palpations during your New Patient Exam, X-rays allow her a complete picture of your spinal health and conditions. They also reveal pathologies and degeneration that wouldn't be detected any other way. We want you to have the best care possible, which is why we include X-rays as part of our examination. This means Dr. Ranae can deliver the most precise adjustment possible, getting you better and faster results.
If you have past X-rays, bring them in for Dr. Ranae to examine.
